Devils Lake boys’ wrestling took home wins over Breckenridge-Wahpeton and Grand Forks Central on Thursday, securing a spot in the state wrestling tournament. The Firebirds are going to state as a dual team. Check out their Facebook page for details on tickets.

Highlights

Devils Lake boys’ hockey lost on the road to Grand Forks Central, 5-1. It was their fourth loss in a row and sixth in their last seven. Two of their last three losses have been by a 5-1 score, both to Grand Forks teams. The Firebirds are in eighth place with a 6-11-1 record and three games left in the season.

Four Winds/Minnewaukan girls’ basketball lost to No. 1 Thompson, 71-43. The Tommies are now a perfect 15-0 on the season, while the Indians are 6-9.

North Star girls’ basketball lost on the road, 59-37 to Park River/Fordville-Lankin. The Bearcats dropped to 7-8 overall, 3-4 in Region 2 and 2-2 in District 3.

The Lake Region State College baseball program signed another player: outfielder Leif Sigurdson from Winnipeg.

What to watch

It’s another busy Friday for Devils Lake sports. The No. 2 boys’ basketball team is on the road to play Grand Forks Central at 7:15 p.m., while the No. 4 girls are at home to face Grand Forks Central at the same time. The Knights’ boys and girls teams are 8-4 and 2-9, respectively.

Devils Lake girls’ hockey is at home as well, playing Mandan at 7 p.m. The Firebirds are 3-0-1 in their last four games.

No. 3 Four Winds/Minnewaukan boys’ basketball (9-3, 2-1) faces Thompson (5-6, 2-2) at Four Winds High School at 4:30 p.m. The Indians are looking to bounce back after a tough loss to No. 1 Kindred.

North Star boys’ basketball, the undefeated No. 2 team in Division B, plays Hillsboro/Central Valley on Friday at 7 p.m. on the road. The Burros (4-6) are a Division A team in Devils Lake’s region.

Benson County boys’ basketball plays Warwick at 7 p.m. in Warwick.

Lake Region State College men’s hockey begins a five-game stretch on the road against Williston State College at 7 p.m. Friday.
