It was another exciting day of basketball on Tuesday, this time on the girls’ side of things.

Highlights

No. 4 Devils Lake girls’ basketball completed a comeback win over a tough region opponent in Carrington. Torri Fee led with 14 points. It was a key bounceback victory for the Firebirds after their loss to No. 1 Thompson. They overtook the Cardinals for second place in Division A, Region 2, with a 4-2 conference record. No. 2 North Star boys’ basketball won yet again Tuesday, beating Cavalier 59-35. The Bearcats have won all 13 of their games, including seven in region play and four in district play. They sit atop the Division B, Region 2, District 3 standings.

The North Star girls also played and beat Cavalier 67-30.

Benson County girls’ basketball, the first-place team in Division B, Region 2, District 4, beat Warwick 61-24 on Tuesday. The Wildcats are unranked despite being 5-0 in district play. They received votes in the latest polls but did not crack the top 10.

New Rockford-Sheyenne, which sits in third place in the same region, beat Nelson County 56-27.

In hockey, the Devils Lake boys’ team lost 3-2 on the road to Fargo Davies. The result swapped the two teams in the standings, with Devils Lake falling to eighth out of 10 teams and Fargo Davies advancing to seventh. The team is 6-10-1 overall with four games left in the season.

Lake Region State College women’s hockey lost on the road vs. Jamestown, 5-1. “If we could just have that second period back,” head coach Brady Stein said, per a press release. “I thought we skated with them all night. As a team we were tough, had great energy; we just made some mistakes in the second period that led to opportunities for Jamestown.” The Royals are 4-9.

What to watch

The only high school basketball game on Wednesday will be the Warwick girls taking on White Shield. The teams are a combined 1-26.

Lake Region State College will be playing at home again, with both basketball teams playing in the evening against North Dakota State College of Science. The women look to bounce back at 6:30 p.m. after losing their nine-game winning streak on Sunday, playing a Wildcats team that’s 17-3 overall and 10-1 in conference play. The men face a similarly tough task at 8:30 p.m. against a team that’s 19-1 (10-1) and in first place.

Last time these schools met, though, the Royals gave them a run for their money. The men lost by just two, 59-57, on Nov. 27, while the women lost 64-56.
