Wednesday saw Lake Region State College women’s basketball continue its success, while Thursday will see high school basketball return to action.
Highlights
The Royals’ women’s basketball team won its ninth straight game Wednesday, taking down Dakota College at Bottineau 77-57. Kyla Fitzgerald led with 32 points.
The men weren’t so fortunate, falling 79-69. For more on both games, read here.
In the only high school basketball games of the day, the Warwick boys beat Mandaree 82-32, while the girls lost 71-49. It was the boys’ third win of the season.
What to watch
No. 2 North Star boys’ basketball is the team to watch in Division B. At a perfect 9-0 on the season, the Bearcats recently got off to a winning start in district play. They’ll play their second district matchup of the season Thursday evening at 7 p.m. against Midway/Minto. The Mustangs are 5-4 overall, 4-2 in Region 2 and 1-2 in District 3.
Though it’s a home game for North Star, it’ll be played at the neutral site of Starkweather High School. It’s only about a 20-minute drive from North Star’s hometown of Cando, however, still giving the Bearcats a sizable home-court advantage.
Four Winds/Minnewaukan girls’ basketball plays on the road against Hillsboro/Central Valley at 5:30 p.m. The Indians are 1-4 in Region 2, while the Burros are 0-2.
Benson County and New Rockford-Sheyenne boys’ basketball also begin district play on Thursday. The Wildcats (3-6, 2-2) play Hatton/Northwood (4-6, 1-4, 1-1) at 7:30 p.m. at Leeds High School. The Rockets (5-2, 1-1) face Larimore (6-4, 2-3, 2-0) on the road at 7:30 p.m.
