Tuesday was a good day for the Devils Lake girls’ and North Star boys’ basketball teams, while the Firebirds’ boys’ hockey team fell short in another close contest.
Highlights
No. 4 Devils Lake girls’ basketball won its fourth straight game by double-digit points, beating Grafton 64-44. The Firebirds have a huge test on Friday when they take on No. 1 Thompson. For more on this game, read here.
The Devils Lake boys’ hockey team, meanwhile, lost in overtime on the road to West Fargo, 4-3. The Firebirds’ last two losses have come in overtime. They’re 6-8-1 on the season now.
Devils Lake led 2-0 early, and 3-1 at the end of the second period. West Fargo scored the tying goal with 4:49 left in regulation.
Goalie Brody Forsberg still had another good game with 45 saves; his most in a game this season is 49. He has a 92.3 save percentage on the year.
North Star boys’ basketball, the No. 2 team in Division B, finally began district play on Tuesday. The Bearcats beat Park River/Fordville-Lankin 56-43, moving them to a perfect 9-0 on the season. They’re 4-0 in Region 2, and 1-0 in District 3. They’ll continue district play against Midway/Minto (5-4, 4-2, 1-2) on Thursday at Starkweather High School at 7 p.m.
In Lake Region State College news, the Royals’ baseball program made its newest signing with the addition of Caleb Gimbel. He’s described as a strong hitter who can play first and third base, and also pitches.

What to watch
Warwick boys’ and girls’ basketball will both face Mandaree on Wednesday. The boys (2-9, 0-6, 0-2) are at home at 7 p.m., while the girls (1-10, 0-5, 0-2) are on the road at 6 p.m.
All other high schools are off on Wednesday, but the LRSC basketball teams will get back to work after their games were postponed last weekend. The Royals are on the road against Dakota College at Bottineau. The women look to extend their eight-game winning streak at 5:30 p.m., while the men look to get back in the win column at 7:30 p.m.
