The Devils Lake boys’ and girls’ basketball teams rose in the NDAPSSA polls released Monday.
In the boys’ Division A, the Firebirds moved from No. 4 to No. 3 after a thrilling 68-66 win over Grafton last week. The Spoilers, who were ranked No. 2, moved down to No. 4. Devils Lake is 7-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Four Winds/Minnewaukan also rose, going from No. 3 to No. 2. The Indians beat Carrington 87-41 in their lone game since the previous polls. FW/M is 7-2 overall, 2-1 in conference.
Kindred remained in first with 20 of the 22 first-place votes. Both of the others went to the Indians. FW/M finished with 78 total points in the voting, while Devils Lake received 73.
Filling out the top five was Beulah with a 6-1 record and 17 points. The Firebirds are scheduled to play Beulah this Saturday.
On the girls’ side, Devils Lake rose from No. 5 to No. 4. The Firebirds won both their games last week, extending their winning streak to three. They crushed Shiloh Christian 72-43 on Friday, then beat Kindred 57-45 on Saturday. Their overall record is 8-3 now, and 2-1 in conference.
It’ll be a key week for Devils Lake coming up, as it faces Grafton and No. 1 Thompson. The Tommies received all 22 of the first-place votes with their 11-0 record.
Coming in second was Bottineau with an 11-1 record and 85 points, while South Prairie-Max ranked third with the same record and 61 points. Nedrose was the final team in the top five, also with an 11-1 record and 18 points.
In Division B, North Star boys’ basketball stood pat at No. 2. Bowman County was the top team with 18 of the first-place votes. Three first-place votes went to North Star, while Westhope-Newburg and Linton/HMB each received one.
Due to weather postponements, North Star is still yet to play a district opponent. The Bearcats are 8-0 though, and are set to face Park River/Fordville-Lankin on Tuesday.
