Each year, The National Indoor Rifle & Pistol Championships are compiled from separate Sectional Tournaments fired throughout the country. These normally run from January 1 through March 18 for Open Sectionals. The 2023 Open Air Rifle Sectional which consists of 60 record shots all fired from the standing position at a target 10 meters away was held in Bismarck, North Dakota back on Saturday, January 14, 2023. These matches are open to adults and juniors without any separation for age or sex. In other words, gender equity applies. It takes a while for each state to report its results and then for them to be compiled.

The challenge period ended on July 20, 2023. This is a long time to wait, but we now know who won.

Casia Steinhaus from Devils Lake, ND, was the winner of the North Dakota State Sectional with her score of 585-29 centers back in January, and her score is the top score in this National Sectional tournament for 2023.

Casia Steinhaus is the first person from Devils Lake to ever win the Gold Medal in the history of this National Open Air Rifle Sectional Championship. This is a very outstanding accomplishment no matter what age the winner might be. Casia did it while she was still only 16 years old.

Casia has been training for the past 7 years with the Lake Region Shooting Sports Association and the Ramsey County 4H Shooting Sports to develop the skill necessary to achieve this result. Her dedication to training and positive attitude have served her well.
