It was finally time for the Region IV Girls Basketball Tournament Championship. Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals, 21-2 on the season was matched up with Harvey-Wells County Hornets, 15-9, for the right to go to the State B Girls' Basketball Tournament.

It was finally time for the Region IV Girls Basketball Tournament Championship. Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals, 21-2 on the season was matched up with Harvey-Wells County Hornets, 15-9, for the right to go to the State B Girls’ Basketball Tournament.

Right from the jump the crowd was electric. Both teams gave it their all. Half-way through the first quarter L-E-M clung to an 11-7 lead over HWC. Both teams went relatively quiet offensively after that. For the final few minutes of the first, the only baskets scored were by the Cardinals, and they closed on a 4-0 run to take a 15-7 lead. In the second Langdon-Edmore-Munich tightened up on the defensive end. They only surrendered two second quarter points to Harvey-Wells County.  L-E-M stretched their lead 26-9 heading into the halftime break. 

Throughout the third quarter, both teams played even basketball. It was not until back-to-back threes from Kaitlynn Scherr and a bucket from Arynn Crockett that would break it open for the Cardinals. After that, Langdon-Edmore-Munich took a commanding 39-16 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  

It was all L-E-M in the fourth as H-WC continued to struggle offensively against the stingy Cardinals defense. The final score Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals 45, Harvey-Wells County Hornets 18. The Cardinals were led in scoring by a pair of seniors, Jordyn Worley with 14 points, and Arynn Crockett with 13. For the Hornets Junior McKayla Jones had six points to lead them in scoring. 

With the win, Langdon-Edmore-Munich are the Region IV Girls Basketball Tournament Champions. The Cardinals punched their ticket to the State B Girls’ Basketball Tournament, which will be held March 1-3 at The Dome in Minot. 

After the game, the Region IV Girls Basketball Team was announced. Stephanie Miller from North Star, Danielle Schwanke from Benson County, Jordyn Worley and Callie Ronningen from Langdon-Edmore-Munich, Hailie Keo from Four Winds-Minnewauken, Madison Leaf from Warwick, and Jaye Fike from Harvey-Wells County all made the list. Stephanie Miller was named Region IV Senior Athlete of the Year. Mary Fike was named Region IV Coach of the Year.
