DL Speedway owner Nolan Olmstead says ‘racing has been close and exciting for the most part so far this year.’
Devils Lake Speedway finished up their second week of racing. Despite the part shortages and spring planting. The Devils Lake Speedway pressed on. Owner Nolan Olmstead said “Once the crop gets in the ground things will pick back up to normal pace. But the racing has been close and exciting for the most part so far this year.”
Since only one Purestock Driver came to Race Tate Bullis was awarded the win by default putting him in the lead for points. 14 year old Tate Bullis did opt to race with the Wissota Street Stocks and finished 5th. Kasey Ussatis of Nome, ND cruised his way to victory lane with Tucker Pederson of Grand Forks, ND and Trey Hess of Grand Forks, ND hot on his tail. Tucker Pederson settled into a 2nd place finish with Trey Hess rounding out the podium in 3rd place. Brian Johanson of Edmore finished 4th.
11 Western Renegade Non-Wing Sprints were in attendance. Adam Sobolik of Grand Forks ND drew the pole position for the feature but was given the option to take the Backstretch Productions Back Row Challenge for an extra $50 pay if he won from the back. A fan in the stands more than doubled that challenge by putting in an additional $100. Sobolik took the challenge and started at the tail of the field. Moving Jeremy Lizakowski of Veseleyville, ND to the poll position. Lizakowski dominated most of the race with a very convincing lead. But little by little Sobolik closed the gap with a slide job coming out of corner 4 down the front stretch to clinch the win at the line over Lizakowski. Brandon Palm of Portland, ND finished 3rd with Steve Nordrum of Devils Lake finishing 4th and Lucas Logue of Rush City, MN rounding out the top 5.
The Wissota Midwest Mods had a new face to the field. 13 year old Brody Kraft of Devils Lake, ND has his career debut. Joining 15 year old Cylen Vargason of Edinburg, ND in the field of veteran drivers. The Midwest Mod feature had Side by side racing throughout the field. Austin Hunter of Winnipeg MB was on the hunt for the leader Jory Berg of Grand Forks, ND when he came victim to mechanical failure and was forced to retire for the night. But a stiff battle for position continued after the restart between Jaden Varnson of Lakota, Tanner Theis of New Rockford, ND, and Jamie Dietzler of Larimore ND. Jory Berg took the checkered flag. Tanner Theis finished 2nd. Jaden Varnson finished 3rd. Jamie Dietzler finished 4th and Jason Schuh finished 5th.
Devils Lake Speedway will be back in action adding the Powri Lightning Sprints to the lineup this Saturday May 27th. Gates will open at 4 p.m. Hot Laps start at 6 p.m. with Racing starting at 7 p.m. Kids 15 and under are free with an accompanying adult for the 2023 season.
