Lake Region State College honored the 1982-83 women’s basketball team on Saturday by officially inducting it into the LRSC Hall of Fame.

The Royals placed seventh at the NJCAA national tournament that year. It’s the highest a Lake Region women’s basketball team has ever finished.

The Royals entered the national tournament with a 28-5 record, having won 14 in a row. They went 2-2 in the tournament. Laurie Hagler ranks 18th on LRSC’s women’s basketball all-time scoring list with 826 points. Hagler and Sandi Walford were named co-conference MVPs. Walford had 21 points and 10 rebounds in the Region XIII championship game, which the Royals won 59-47 over UND-Williston.

Several members of the team, many of whom hail from the Devils Lake area, were in attendance for the event.

Pictures of Journal archives from that season were put on display. After the ceremony, members of the team took them home to keep.
