Fall sports are officially in full swing.
While this was the second weekend of nine-man and Division A football, it was the first for Division AA, meaning it was the first full slate of Friday night football games in North Dakota.
Among the notable scores: Four Winds had a halftime lead on a strong North Border team but ended up losing to move its record to 1-1. No. 1 New Rockford-Sheyenne/Maddock won its 27th straight game, tying the 2013-15 Cavalier team for the second-longest winning streak in North Dakota nine-man history. North Star improved to 2-0 in the early going, giving the Bearcats more wins than they had in their previous two seasons combined.
High school volleyball also began on Saturday. Several area teams competed in tournaments. Langdon Area/Munich won the Northern Cass tournament for the first time since 2016, going 6-0 on the day. Not a bad way to begin the double-title defense. North Star, meanwhile, won the Bottineau tournament by going 5-0. The Devils Lake junior varsity team won the third annual Four Winds Invitational; Minnewaukan/Warwick debuted its new volleyball team in that tournament as well.
On the college side of things, it was a tough weekend over in Mason City, Iowa, for the Lake Region State College volleyball team, which went 0-4.
