The Devils Lake girls’ golf team continued to improve upon its foundation on Thursday.
The Firebirds had a group of eight golfers in the Wahpeton Invitational at Bois de Sioux Golf Course. They posted a +129 cumulatively — three short of ninth-place Fargo South, but it was still 30 strokes better than their score at this meet in 2025.
And they did it without Tylie Brodina.
Instead, sophomore Mara Hogness led the way by breaking 100 with a 98. Her best is 96, which she set in the season opener. She’s shot no worse than 101 in a round this year.
Junior Charly Black continued her strong season with a 102, the second-best mark among Firebirds.
Juniors Camila Quinonez and Brynlee Homan shot a 105 and 108, respectively.
Another junior, Emmy Remmick, got her first varsity action of the season and shot a personal-best 115.
Sophomore Saige Stafford shot a 125. Freshmen Zoey Burdick and Ashtyn Mertens posted a 126 and 131, respectively.
Devils Lake finished 10th out of 10 teams overall. West Fargo Sheyenne (+28) won the meet. Devils Lake (+129) came in behind Fargo South (+126) and Fargo Davies (+92).
Now four rounds and three meets into the season, the Firebirds will get right back into it on Monday, Aug. 24 at Grand Forks Country Club.
