Devils Lake girls’ golf has opened the 2026 season with its best team score in the young history of the program.
The Firebirds posted a +93 in the season opener Friday. It beat their previous best of +96, set late last fall. This is now the third season of Devils Lake’s revitalized golf program.
The +93 ultimately ranked last out of 11 teams at Friday’s West Fargo Sheyenne Invite. The meet took place at CrossRoads Golf Club in Carrington, the first time that a Class A girls’ golf meet has been held there. Seven of the teams in the meet were from the Fargo metropolitan area.
Devils Lake trailed West Fargo (+78) by 15 strokes. Kindred (+14) won the event, 11 strokes better than second-place West Fargo Sheyenne (+25).
The Firebirds’ top golfer from last year, basketball standout Tylie Brodina, once again led the pack for Devils Lake. She shot an 88, which was two short of her personal best of 86. Brodina is now a senior.
Junior Camilia Quinonez and sophomore Mara Hogness recorded personal bests with marks of 89 and 96, respectively. That made three Firebirds under 100.
Freshman Zoey Burdick competed in her first varsity meet and posted a 108, good for fourth on the team.
Junior Rebecca Tohm was next in line with a 109. Sophomore Saige Stafford was only one more stroke behind at 110.
Freshman Ashtyn Mertens shot a personal-best 112 to round out the Firebirds’ individual scores.
The next action for Devils Lake is the East/West Classic on Aug. 17 and 18 at Jamestown Country Club.
