Coach Rick Jorgenson about our recently held State 4-H Air Rifle Match. Attached are a couple pics to go with it.
Our Ramsey County 4-H Shooting Sports club hosted the 2023 North Dakota State 4-H Air Rifle Championship here in Devils Lake on Saturday April 1, 2023.
40 young 4-H shooting sports athletes from around the state competed representing 4-H shooting clubs from Cass, Pierce, Ramsey, Rolette, and Stutsman County. Those 10 and younger competed from the bench, and the junior and senior 4-H athletes fired a 3 position match with their sporter air rifles.
24 beginners fired some impressive scores from the bench with Josie and Holly Brekhus finishing in first and second place. Josie’s score of 586 out of a possible 600 is a new state record for beginners. Our Ramsey County beginner’s team of Josie, Holly, Bentley Birkeland and Cast Davis finished in first place followed by Pierce County with some very strong scores. Exactly half of the beginners fired scores of 500 or better. This is an outstanding performance for these young shooting athletes.
Ramsey County’s Lauren Stiven, Casia Steinhaus, Isaac Vaagen and Rachel Vaagen finished with the top 4 scores in the 3 position matches to win the team championship. Ward County’s team finished second.
We enjoyed hosting the event and hope to see many of these young people at next year’s State Championship.
