The Class A and B state golf tournaments were held Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Class A competition took place at Oxbow Golf Course in Oxbow, N.D. Devils Lake had five golfers competing, highlighted by senior Braxton Boline.
The Class B tournament took place at Cross Roads Golf Course in Carrington, N.D. North Star had an exceptionally strong showing, coming in second place overall with senior Myles Jorde winning an individual championship.
Class A results
Boline led the way for Devils Lake. He tied for 39th out of 112 placers with a score of 167, which was 23 over par. He shot an 87 (+15) on Tuesday and 80 (+8) on Wednesday.
It was Boline’s second consecutive year competing at state. He improved from last season’s 171 and 79th-place finish.
Devils Lake juniors Thomas Leevers and Rylan Swenson tied for 97th with a score of 182 (+38). Leevers shot a 95 and 87 on each day, respectively, while Swenson was at 90 and 92.
Freshmen Koen Boline and Patrick Leevers finished 111th and 112th, respectively. Boline shot a 190 (+46) and Leevers 197 (+53).
Devils Lake was not one of the 12 placing teams as a group. Minot and Grand Forks Red River tied for the best score, with Minot getting the edge for the championship.
Class B results
North Star took second place out of 12 placing teams. The Bearcats had a combined score of 577, which was just one stroke over par.
The only team better was Oak Grove, which posted a 571 (-6).
North Star shot a 292 (+4) on Tuesday. After the first day, the Bearcats trailed Oak Grove by only two strokes. North Star had an even better Day 2 showing, with a 285 (-3), but Oak Grove secured the championship with a 281 (-7).
Individually, Jorde posted the best score in all of Class B. He shot a 132 (-12), six strokes better than second-place Carter Paulus. Jorde was consistent, with a 66 on each day.
Bearcats sophomore Ian Westlind also had a strong showing, coming in a five-way tie for seventh place with a 143 (-1). He shot a 71 on Tuesday, one under par, then shot an even 72 on Wednesday.
Tavin Knudson (148, 16th place), Miles Weber (154, 34th place), Hunter Hagler (166, 84th place) and Ezra Hausmann (168, 96th place) rounded out the field for North Star.
The Bearcats also took home both year-end honors for Class B boys’ golf. Jorde was named the Senior Athlete of the Year, while Barry Heisler was named the Coach of the Year.
New Rockford-Sheyenne senior Jackson Schumacher placed 13th with a 145 (+1).
Nelson County senior Rider Schmidt finished in a tie for 16th with a 148 (+4).
