Almost every area playoff baseball or softball game in the Lake Region was postponed on Monday.
Rainy, chilly and windy temperatures are affecting the bulk of northeastern North Dakota, pushing tournaments back a day. Teams with games postponed include Nelson County/Midkota, North Star and Langdon Area/Munich.
The lone area team to play on as scheduled was New Rockford-Sheyenne in the Region 3 baseball tournament. The No. 4 seed Rockets’ first game is set for 12 p.m. against No. 5 seed Kidder County in LaMoure on Monday. The tournament is being held May 18-20.

Region 2 baseball/softball
The Region 2 baseball and softball tournaments were set to continue Monday in Mayville and Thompson, respectively.
In baseball, No. 5 seed Nelson County/Midkota beat No. 4 seed Hatton/Northwood 5-4 on Saturday. The win guaranteed at least two more games for the Chargers. They were supposed to play No. 1 seed Hillsboro/Central Valley on Monday at Scott Berry Field with an 11 a.m. start time. That has now been pushed to Tuesday, May 19 with the same start time.
If the Chargers win Tuesday, they’ll play at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. If they lose Tuesday, they’ll play another game later the same day. The tournament could be over by the end of Wednesday, but if two teams are still alive, it will wrap up on Thursday at 4 p.m.
In softball, Region 2 South No. 3 seed NC/M beat North No. 2 seed Langdon Area/Munich, 13-1, on Saturday in Langdon. The Chargers advanced to the main field of four teams, which is double-elimination. They were supposed to play South No. 1 seed Thompson at 1 p.m. on Monday in Thompson. That game has been moved to Tuesday at the same time, with games to follow on Wednesday.
The Region 2 softball tournament is now set to wrap up on Wednesday, barring any further weather-related changes. The winner of Wednesday’s region championship automatically advances to state; the loser will play a losers-bracket game to determine a second state qualifier.
Region 5 baseball
The Region 5 baseball tournament in Bottineau was also postponed. The tournament played games on Tuesday and Thursday, May 12 and 14, and won’t resume until five days later. No. 2 seed North Star beat No. 6 seed Rugby 15-6 on Thursday to advance.
The Bearcats were set to face No. 1 seed Bottineau on Monday at 1 p.m. in the Dakota College at Bottineau Lumberyard. That will now be played Tuesday at the same time. The winner advances to Wednesday’s 3 p.m. championship game; the loser plays the winner of No. 3 seed Rugby vs. No. 4 seed Northern Lights at 3 p.m. Tuesday to try to keep its season alive.
The tournament will wrap up on Wednesday barring any further weather delays.
Region 4 baseball
The Region 4 baseball tournament is yet to start, as of Monday.
With Monday’s postponements, the tournament is now set to begin with three games Tuesday starting at 1:30 p.m. at Langdon Area High School.
No. 1 seed Langdon Area/Munich plays in the third game of the day against the winner of No. 4 seed Midway/Minto vs. No. 5 seed Pembina County North.
The field is double-elimination, with games set to continue Wednesday.
The championship will be played on Thursday.
A look at the forecast
All of the above changes are, of course, still pending weather.
As of Monday morning, there is still rain expected Tuesday in Mayville and Thompson. In Langdon, it could rain and possibly even snow, according to accuweather.com. The forecast looks the best for Bottineau, with a high of 54 degrees and cloudy but dry conditions with reasonable wind speeds.
The forecast is fluctuating and could still change abruptly.
