Dru Longie is the newest Lake Region State College Royal.

The Four Winds senior guard has committed to LRSC women’s basketball. A signing ceremony was held for her at Four Winds Community High School on Wednesday.

Longie helped the Lady Indians go 16-8 this season, a year after going 5-17.

“Dru was a very important part of our team’s turnaround from last season to this season,” Four Winds/Minnewaukan head coach Sean Gourd Sr. said. “She was one of our captains and led by example both on and off the court.”

Longie averaged 8.2 points per game, making 39 three-pointers. She added 37 steals and 30 assists.

Gourd Sr. described her as a “gym rat” who constantly works on her game.

“And she is an even better person,” he said. “We were very fortunate to have Dru in our program these past four years. She did things the right way. Dru took care of her academics, she worked hard for us on the court and did whatever was asked for our team to be successful. She did a lot of little things that don’t always show up in the box score.”

Longie was recruited by Colden Hutton, who recently stepped away from coaching to become LRSC’s athletic director. The team is in the process of hiring its next head coach. Hutton was still present for Longie’s signing ceremony.

“We are super excited to have Dru join our Royal family!” Hutton said. “Not only is she talented as a basketball player, but she is an incredible person and exactly the type of student-athlete we are looking to add to our Royal family! We are excited to keep Dru in the Lake Region area and can’t wait to see what she does here at LRSC.”

The LRSC women’s basketball team is coming off a 17-12 season that ended in the Region XIII semifinals. The Royals have had a winning record in three of the last four seasons. In that span, they’ve had eight all-conference players and eight who transferred to NCAA Division I or Division II schools.

According to the archived rosters on LRSC’s website, Longie will be the first Four Winds alum to play for the women’s team since Jasmine Lohnes in the 2019-20 season.

The LRSC men’s team had a Four Winds alum as recently as this season with Dalen Leftbear.

Longie was one of three seniors on the Lady Indians this year, alongside Cailee Hanson and Gracie Jackson.

“We wish her the best of luck as she continues her college career at the next level,” Gourd Sr. said.
