The Lake Region State College softball team dropped its first set of conference games this season.

The Royals (4-22, 0-4) lost four games to Williston State College (13-15, 4-0) in Williston on Saturday and Sunday.

The weekend started with a 7-0 loss where LRSC only recorded three hits.

The Royals trailed 5-0 through three innings of the second game on Saturday before breaking out for a four-run fourth inning. Ella Harkness went 3-for-4, including a two-out RBI single. New Rockford native Katie Allmaras also had an RBI single during the rally.

LRSC still dropped the game 7-4 after allowing two runs in the sixth.

Ireland Schmidt started the first game of each doubleheader in the circle, while Tristin McTavish started the second game of each doubleheader.

The Royals lost 7-2 in the first game of Sunday’s action. They were limited to three hits.

The weekend concluded with a 10-2 loss. LRSC committed four errors, resulting in four unearned runs. The Royals’ Leta Schulz went 2-for-2 with a walk.

Schulz and Harkness are hitting .328 and .310 on the season, respectively. They’re the only two hitters with enough at-bats to qualify.

Schmidt has a 9.55 ERA in 55 innings pitched, while McTavish has a 9.65 ERA in 57 1/3 innings. Schmidt has collected 86 strikeouts, giving her 10.95 strikeouts per seven innings (14.07 per nine). She’s also walked 56 batters in those 55 innings, though.

LRSC has lost 12 games in a row.

Like the baseball team, the Royals’ Friday and Saturday games against North Dakota State College of Science (26-5, 3-1) have been postponed. The next action on the schedule is four games at Miles Community College on April 11 and 12.
