The Lake Region State College women’s basketball season has come to an end.
The No. 3-seeded Royals (17-12) took a 91-79 loss to No. 2 seed North Dakota State College of Science (23-5) in Wahpeton on Wednesday. Their season concluded in the Region XIII semifinals.
“Forever grateful for this group and the memories we got to create,” the team wrote on X. “Tough way to end, but unbelievably proud of how we competed!”
It was slightly closer than the last two times LRSC had played NDSCS — which were both 14-point losses.
The teams were tied after the first quarter, 17-17. The Wildcats outscored the Royals by 13 in the second quarter, which ultimately made the difference.
LRSC outscored NDSCS by four in the fourth quarter and by one overall in the second half.
Zoie Austin wrapped up her strong freshman season with a 20-point performance. The Bismarck Century alum finished her campaign with 18.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
Devils Lake native Torri Fee added 17 off the bench. It was her first season in Royal blue as well. Fee averaged 8.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game as a freshman.
Danielle McNamara scored 14 points, going 4-for-6 from three-point range. It was tied for her season-best offensive night. This was McNamara’s first and last season for LRSC.
Sydney Schwabe scored seven points in her final game as a Royal. She averaged 12.2 points per game this season, and 12.9 in 56 games over the last two years. She totaled 720 points between the two seasons.
Jenna Tierney, a two-year starter, finished her LRSC career with four points on Wednesday. She averaged 7.9 points per game after 9.2 last year. She totaled 506 over her two seasons with the Royals.
Lara Graham had a tough night, scoring three points while shooting 1-for-8 from the field.
She spent the last two seasons in Royal blue as well. After only starting twice last season — but appearing in 31 games — she started 28 of LRSC’s games this season. She averaged 11.8 points per game. She totaled 617 points over two seasons.
For the Wildcats, Maggie Westling and Lolo Carlow scored 24 and 20, respectively, on Wednesday.
NDSCS outrebounded LRSC 47-31. The Wildcats shot 50.8% from the field, while the Royals shot 40.5%.
Colden Hutton’s second season as LRSC head coach ended at 17-12 overall, after going 15-17 in his first year. That makes him 32-29 since taking over for Ryan Clark, who is now the head women’s basketball coach at Minot State University.
Both seasons ended in the semifinals to NDSCS. Last year, it was a tight 67-62 affair after leading by 14 at the half.
The Wildcats went on to win the 2024-25 Region XIII championship.
With the LRSC men’s season ending on Sunday, and hockey already done, the school’s winter sports season has officially concluded.
Baseball and softball have already gotten going with some road trips.
