It might have taken a game to get settled in, but the Palmers are back.

Mason and Max Palmer were held in check in their return to the court against No. 1 Four Winds/Minnewaukan on Feb. 10. But they got going in their second game back, leading Devils Lake (11-7) to an 80-56 win over a borderline top-five Shiloh Christian team (14-3) on Saturday.

Then, Devils Lake won a two-point region game over May-Port-C-G (6-12, 2-9) on Monday to improve to 12-7 overall and 6-6 in region play.

In Saturday’s non-region win over Shiloh Christian, the Palmers combined for 55 points, with 28 from Mason and 27 from Max. They each made five three-pointers.

Devils Lake hit six triples in the first quarter, with two each from Mason, Max and Ben Brodina.

Max had a 19-point first half to keep Devils Lake in the lead, 42-37, at halftime. The Skyhawks briefly went ahead, 24-22, with a 12-0 run to end the first quarter.

Shiloh Christian was within three points early in the second half.

The Firebirds separated themselves with a 23-1 run.

Mason, after an eight-point first half, broke out for a 20-point second half. He hit five triples and went 3-for-5 from the free throw line.

Max had five threes and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line. He scored all 27 of his points in the first three quarters.

Devils Lake pulled its starters with 73 points on the board.

Brodina finished with 10, while Kade Fee had five and Bryar Exner had three. Talan Gregory, Alex Hammond and Trayson Touche combined for seven off the bench.

The Firebirds continued their season with a 79-73 win over May-Port-C-G on Monday.

Mason had another big night, leading Devils Lake with 35 points. Max added 18, while Brodina had 16.

Devils Lake trailed 25-19 after the first quarter. The Firebirds led 41-36 at the half, but May-Port had it tied, 57-57, going into the fourth. The 79-point total was among Devils Lake’s best offensive games this year, but the Patriots’ 73 was the third-most an opponent has put up on the Firebirds.

The Palmers have combined for 108 points over their last two games.
