Devils Lake girls’ hockey got the monkey off its back Thursday, securing its first win of the last two seasons.

The Firebirds (1-18) won 5-3 over Dickinson (4-15), avenging their overtime loss from December. They’re now tied in Dickinson in the standings with seven points.

Devils Lake led 3-1 after the first two period, getting two goals from Julia McIvor and one from Charly Black.

With less than three minutes left in regulation, Dickinson tied the game on successive goals, 16 seconds apart.

Just nine seconds later, at 14:32 in the third period, Miley Duciaume scored the go-ahead goal for Devils Lake, with an assist from Graci Witzel.

McIvor added an insurance goal — her third goal of the game — with 21 seconds left to lock down the 5-3 win.

Goalie Delaney Parker saved 36 of 39 shots (92.3%).
