After a series of postponements and schedule adjustments, the Devils Lake boys’ wrestling team finally got a home dual on Tuesday.
The Firebirds hosted the Dennis Flynn Shootout in December, but this was their first home dual of the season.
They beat Fargo North, 50-21.
Devils Lake totaled six wins by pin out of the 13 weight classes.
Junior Rylan Samuelson had the first Firebird pin of the night in the 127 category. It came at 1:12 for the 114th win of his career. Samuelson is one of three Firebirds who made it to the state finals last year, and the only one who didn’t graduate.
Senior Wesley Fisk followed up Samuelson with a pin in the 133 weight class at 1:04. It was Fisk’s 101st career win.
Other Firebirds who won by pin were Tucker Bennett (145, 0:33), Mitchell Gerhardt (152, 2:50), Logan Charboneau (172, 0:49) and Aiden Stiven (215, 1:18).
Samuelson’s younger brother, freshman Gregor Samuelson, opened the night with a win by technical fall (21-1) in the 107 weight class. Junior Easton Encinas added a win by decision (16-12) at 189.
Devils Lake also had a win by forfeit in the 121 weight class. Cooper Dahm lost by decision (7-3) in the 114, while Caber Bryce Volk, Kameron Kraft and Carter Ironheart lost by pin in the 139, 160 and 285 weight classes, respectively.
The junior varsity team also took five wins in six matches.
The girls’ team lost 72-4 to Grand Forks preceding the boys’ dual.
Next week is set to be a busy week at home for the boys’ wrestling team. The Firebirds will host a dual against West Fargo Sheyenne on Tuesday, then two duals with Grand Forks Red River and Fargo South on Thursday. The Red River dual is rescheduled from Jan. 22.
