While the twists and turns of the presidential campaign are captivating much of the country’s attention, we are headed for utter chaos after the November election. It is almost a certainty the former president will lose the popular vote perhaps by more than 10 million votes. The antiquated electoral college will be a tightly contested case that could go either way. There are only a handful of states who will ultimately decide the election. This election will likely follow the trend of the past two elections being rather closely contested. It is highly probable the current Democratic Vice President will be selected by the people, perhaps by a margin exceeding 10 million votes. The electoral college has produced our president a number of times in the past 20-25 years even when someone else won the popular vote.
Since the 2020 election was certified by Congress and the current and duly elected president took office, the former president has claimed the election was rigged by the Democrats and that he won. He has produced no verifiable evidence that his assertion of a rigged election is true other than conjecture, lies and unfounded conspiracy theories. Yet, millions of people believe this big lie without any sound evidence to back up this claim. They have many conspiracy theories and have leveled many wild claims about lasers, truck hauling ballots, rigged voting machines and other such malarky. Believing that the sometimes politically inept Democratic party (the Democratic party knows how to govern, and the Republican party is much better at politics) was able to pull off a scam of this magnitude is ridiculous and unfathomable.
The sinister nature of what is taking place behind the scenes throughout the country, but particularly in the handful of swing states, is designed to, in effect, steal an election for someone who will not win the popular vote and possibly initially lose the electoral college. Once the dust settles, the shenanigans will begin to discount the vote of the people and to select someone as president that did not win the election. It is likely that President Biden will have to use all the resources at his disposal to protect the integrity of the election and now that the Supreme Court has made him, and any future president, immune from criminal prosecution, his actions are almost limitless. Bold actions may be required to protect the country. While I believe this presidential immunity was a horrible and politically decided Supreme Court decision and could be readily abused by a corruptible future president, for now it is the law of the land for the current president.
The day after the election and all the days prior to the inauguration of Kamala Harris as the duly elected President of the United States will be among the most chaotic and dangerous in the history of the country. The former president is laying the groundwork for claiming another rigged election just in case he does not win the presidency. It is surreal that someone who is a convicted felon, an adjudicated sexual abuser (judge indicated it was, in his opinion, rape), a fraudulent businessman that has been fined millions for his financial malfeasance, someone that paid off a porn star to keep quiet about a sexual encounter in violation of campaign finance law and someone with a few other federal indictments is someone that people are considering voting for as president. Most of us can recall when presidents were revered as individuals of good moral character, truthful, honest and someone we would want our children to emulate. That no longer seems to be the case, and we are a lesser nation for where we are with the quality of Individuals that aspire being the president of this once great country.
It will take years, if not decades, to recover from the political dysfunction and social trauma that has been inflicted on this country over the past few years. We have millions of seemingly normal people believing that the former president won the 2020 election based on no substantial valid evidence made available that would show that outcome. We have accumulated a federal debt of trillions as the result of ill-conceived and budget busting tax cuts and off budget Mideast military misadventures that added additional trillions to the federal debt. It has always been surreal that tax cuts were enacted while the country was waging off budget multi-trillion military actions in the Mideast. It is like a decision was made to defy logic and put our financial excesses on the federal credit card and just let future generations worry about paying the bill when it comes due. All this political dysfunction and social trauma is taking place in a country where income inequality is rampant and among the worst in the world. Yes, The U.S. remains the wealthiest country on the planet, but we have a structural issue in our society, most caused from neglect and political duplicity, that will potentially destroy the country if allowed to go unchecked much longer.
