It has been a busy few months for the District 15 GOP. In January the district lines were changed due to a lawsuit filed by the Turtle Mountain and Spirit Lake Tribes. As a result of the ruling by the court, new district lines were applied which changed counties in District 15 and a reorganization election must be held.
There will be a district meeting held at the Devils Lake Armory on February 24 at 10:00 a.m. in order to hold the election of a new district committee. Along with this an Endorsing Convention will also be held. Because of the district line change we lost Senator Judy Estenson and gained Senator Kent Weston. We gained a Representative for the ND House of Representatives, Rep. Dona Henderson. The district can only have two Representatives, and one Senator. All legislators must again run for their positions and an election must be held in 2024. As of the time of this article Kathy Frehlich and Donna Henderson will be attending the convention for endorsement from District 15. Senator Kent Weston must also run again and will also be attending to get the district endorsement. Once the Endorsement Convention is complete, there will be a delegate election for those who wish to be a delegate at the ND GOP State Convention in Fargo April 4– 6 2024.
If you wish to run for an officer position on the District 15 Committee you will need to contact Jason Pierce, District 15 Chairman, as well as have your district dues paid on or before February 24. If you wish to be a delegate at the state convention, you must also have your District and state dues paid no later than 10 days before the convention. During the meeting on the 24th any candidates that are running for state or federal offices have been invited to attend. This will be a lengthy meeting and lunch will be provided.
Finally, on March 4from 5 – 8 p.m., the District 15 GOP will be hosting a 2024 Presidential Caucus at the Devils Lake Armory. For more information on this event go to www.ndgop.org or the ND District 15 Facebook page.
