I have been dehydrating apples this week to make apple “chips.”
Dehydrated apples are a great snack, a great option for kids, too. Using the apple peeler, corer and slicer makes it a fairly simple task. After they are peeled, cored, and sliced I just toss them in a little cinnamon sugar and place them on the dehydrator trays. Placing them on the trays is actually the most time-consuming part of the whole process; unless you count the time they dehydrate because that is about 8-10 hours.
Just this last week we got three apple trees from Mark’s Greenhouse. They were on sale, and I have wanted to get a couple apple trees for a while now. It just so happens that we got them on our anniversary and planted one together as a family. One of my favorite kind of memories. Haralson, State Fair and Frostbite were the varieties that we decided to get. Now to hope the deer stay away from them!
We also got our first egg from our spring chicks this week! Last time we got chicks the first egg came on our anniversary and this time the first egg was again on our anniversary!! So fun. It was a Buff Orpington that laid first, and we have also gotten a blue easter egger egg. When chickens first start laying, they lay eggs that are little. They usually are referred to as pullet eggs until they are full sized. The picture shows how little they can be. It is in my daughter’s hand holding the egg,
