Sex. Your career. Housekeeping. Cow-milking. Manure pitching. Weed picking and learning you need to have a root canal. God.
I likely had you at sex but settle down. I’m about to make a point.
Most of the circumstances typed above conjure up dread in some of you. Some of you have awoken every day cursing the things you need to do. You could add so many mundane tasks to the above list. Changing baby diapers, paying bills, eating your mother-in-law’s horrid cooking so not to offend her. Eek!
In such horrid places, I prefer to inject. I’m not talking about injecting the insulin it takes for me to survive my Type 1 diabetes. That could be a dread to me – but for. My “but for” is my ability to inject just a wee bit of enthusiasm into anything unpleasant I’m tasked with doing.
For instance – instead of complaining, “I have to go to work,” I change the script to read, “I get to go to work.” Having to and getting to grows two completely different vibes. Imagine getting to make love to your husbands ladies! Try visualizing getting to weed your beloved’s garden, men!
By injecting enthusiasm and positive words into perceived negative situations – most everything becomes automatically more pleasurable! Too many churches put the emphasis on “fearing” God (and we should since it’s commanded.) But the Good Book goes on to say, “We are to fear and love God.” It seems to me God would feel much pleasure from us enthusiastically speaking to Him instead of being somber, fearful, sober and spiritually dark.
Add a little umph to your relationship! Just inject enthusiasm! Love grows automatically there – in a place of pleasing words. Or, you could choose to not feel pleasure. I can’t process why anyone would want to use their created life to live displeasured, though.
Enthusiasm is completely free and it’s not a choice that takes much pondering. Enthusiasm is so simple to enact in your otherwise drab description of your day. There are a plethora of adjectives to use to flip any situation. Try using sentences with some of these words to increase the power behind the task. Charming, beautiful, lively, enchanting, breathtaking. Notice how those words make you feel just by reading them on this page. They sure beat the negative connotations of: bleak, boring, creepy, crowded, deserted and desolate – wouldn’t you agree?
The words I prefer to use to keep me enthusiastic about things I dislike doing otherwise are words like: astounding, bedazzling, brilliant, breathtaking, classy, compelling, eclipsing, enriching, flawless, luminous, provocative, unforgettable and vibrant!
Today I commit to being enthusiastic compellingly by bedazzling God with praise unforgettable! I already feel enthusiasm empowering me just from typing that. Don’t trust me. Never trust me. Just please try it. I suspect that if you do – you won’t just have a good day – you’ll have a “super-duper” great day and as a bonus – it may just be pleasurable beyond your wildest dreams! I get to clean our darling toilet. It’s going to be an enthusiastic day, indeed! I’d love to hear how and in what you inject enthusiasm into in order to make life more pleasant.
