It is becoming increasingly clear to most Americans that the current president is not working diligently on the issues he campaigned on and that are of utmost importance to most Americans. He is extracting as much money as possible from the government, or through his position within it, for himself. The fact is that millions of people overlooked or were unaware of the Washington Post, which documented and verified 30,000+ lies and misstatements made during his first term as president. Many of us watched in horror as the current president campaigned by promising many things, understanding that he was lying, yet millions bought his hogwash. Regardless of what the current president believes, he has never produced any hard evidence to support his claim that he won the 2020 election. He won the 2024 election with less than 50% of the vote yet claims he won in a landslide. So delusional.
The current president is a grifter; someone who grifts is a thief, but of a particular sort: they illegally obtain money or property by cleverness or deceit and do not usually resort to physical force or violence. He didn’t do as much grifting during his first term because people with integrity in his administration tempered his propensity to enrich himself. The second term has no one to restrain his worst impulses, and he is accumulating as much money as is possible while serving as president.
It has been said that once wealthy people reach a certain level of income, it is not actually the wealth itself, but the position they can reach in the rankings of the world’s wealthiest people. It is rumored that Vladimir Putin is one of the wealthiest people on the planet, all while being the leader of Russia, not a high-paying job. Putin’s accumulation of wealth is from a very corrupt government that produces wealth for Putin through an oligarchic form of government.
Given the extent of corruption committed by the current president, should at least the House or the Senate become controlled by the Democrats, the investigations into the president’s corruption will be exhaustive and very revealing. No impeachment that plays into the victimhood that the current president uses so well by constantly whining. The fact is that much of the corruption by the current president is out in the open and in our face. The more hidden and likely more sinister and blatantly illegal corruption will be revealed by Democratic Congressional investigations, which will produce grave doubt about the fitness of the current president for the office.
One of the new grifts is using Truth Social, owned by the president, to generate revenue by offering subscription services that provide the president’s posts before they are publicly shared for a price of up to $100,000 per month. This is like monetizing insider trading because subscribers could use this information for financial gain in many ways. The current president has grifted his entire life. His grifts disregard regulations, rules, norms, and laws. He is arguably one of the most corrupt presidents in history. The current president is putting his name everywhere possible and building monuments to himself because he possibly knows he will never be revered as a great, or even a good, president. He will be among the worst presidents, if not the worst, in history.
It is important to stress that we, the people, have allowed, and often ignored, the president pilfering government coffers to increase his wealth. We have allowed open corruption to flourish through complacency and blind MAGA obedience. Most of the world no longer looks at the U.S. as the de facto leader of the world, but as some great military power that functions like a third-world authoritarian dictatorship. The willful ignorance and gullibility shown by tens of millions are what the founding fathers feared, because the public could be manipulated by unscrupulous individuals to harm, if not destroy, the democracy they had set up. The depth and scope of the destruction that the current president has inflicted on the country and could do so for two more years will take years to recover from, provided the country is allowed to start a difficult democracy reclamation project as soon as possible. Because money, particularly dark money, sadly dominates our political process, and most corporations and the extremely wealthy like how the current president coddles them to meet their specific needs, they overlook the government being run like a criminal mob. The Democrats must win the House, the Senate, or both to perform their constitutional duty of being part of the checks and balances process that is currently not working very well in a one-party government ruled by the Republican Party. Accountability is the current president’s kryptonite, and to likely save our fragile democracy, it must be brought into play with Democratic Party control in Congress.
