Dear Editor,

I wonder if it could be that a significant portion of this nation has grown sick and tired of a central Christian tenet.

The principle that I’m thinking about is the one that says, in essence, “set yourself aside and place others and their needs in the middle. Don’t think more highly of yourself than you ought.”

For what other reason would so many Christians support a president whose words and actions are the antithesis of this tenet?

Could it be because he exudes what they, themselves, desire?

Are they just as enamoured as anyone else, including President Trump, with the question, “What’s in it for me?”

Thus, perhaps, it is inspiring to those who have grown tired of their humble Christian calling to have a president that makes everything about himself.

In this time of celebrating the 250th anniversary of our nation, when it is this great nation that should be celebrated, Trump has made it about Trump’s self. Trump held a Trump rally concert, rolled out a U.S. passport with Trump’s image, a Trump gold coin, and $100 bills signed by Trump, the first sitting president ever to sign currency.

Trump and the Trump Treasury are pushing for a $250 bill with Trump’s face on it.

It used to be that someone had to die before receiving that honor. There was a Trump “State Fair” that promoted all things “Trump,” including a model of the arch Trump wants built in D.C. to honor Trump.

Trump visited Mount Rushmore and continues to express Trump’s desire to have Trump’s face added.

With Trump as the self-adored hero, his adorers must be fed up with all that “woke” stuff that grows out of Christian standards of unselfish love, compassionate kindness, generosity, gentleness and humility.
