Obituary

Sidney ‘Sid’ A. Bingaman, 78, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND.  Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Christ Free Lutheran Church in Devils Lake. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan with Pastor Luther ‘Lu’ Mathison and Pastor Gary Fulsebakke.  Everyone is welcome to stream the service online through Nelson Funeral Home Facebook Page. Burial will take place at Antiochia Cemetery in rural Churchs Ferry, ND in the spring.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to any local church or favorite charity of your choosing.  CDC recommendations including social distancing, hand sanitizing and staying away if not feeling well are encouraged. Wearing a mask is required.

Sidney Allen Bingaman was born April 14, 1942 in Churchs Ferry to Ernest and Lily (Thompson) Bingaman.  He graduated from Churchs Ferry High School in 1960.  In May 1968, he graduated from Minot State College; Sidney then earned his Master’s Degree in August 1974 in Business and Vocational Education from the University of North Dakota.

Sidney was an instructor at Valley City State College, Drayton High School, Grand Forks Public School System, Grand Forks Air Force Base for Lake Region Community College, Fort Berthold Community College in New Town, Turtle Mountain Community College in Belcourt, Little Hoop Community College and Four Winds School in Fort Totten where he retired from teaching.  During his teaching career, Sidney was a speaker at many conferences throughout the United States. 

Sidney was a lifelong farmer and raised cattle. He was an accomplished, self-taught organist and pianist and played for many churches, events, weddings and funerals throughout the area.  Sidney was involved in many organizations in the area and served in many positions.  He was family historian who for many years organized the Thompson Family Reunions.

Sidney is survived by his sister, Betty Horn; brothers, Larry Bingaman and Dan Bingaman.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lily Bingaman; brothers, Ernie and Don Bingaman.
