Roger W. Hatten, 79 of Devils Lake ND passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at his home in the loving care of his family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Roger Wayne Hatten was born on April 14, 1941 in Lakota ND, the son of Donald and Christine (Ericksrud) Hatten. He grew up on the family farm and was educated in Lakota, graduating from Lakota High School with the class of 1959. He entered the United States Navy on February 26, 1960 and proudly served his country stateside, receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of Aviation Machinist’s Mate on February 25, 1964. He continued his commitment to the Armed Services with the Navy Reserves until February 25, 1966.
After his discharge, Roger returned to the Lake Region and worked for a short time with Agar Taxi Service and then became employed by Mike Kurtz Construction. In 1968, Roger began a 48-year career with Barrett Mobile Home Transport (which later became Bennett Mobile Home Transport). He was a dedicated, hard-working employee who loved his job, working well into his 70’s.
Roger was united in marriage to Judith Sandbakken on April 9, 1965 at Lakota ND and they lived, worked and were the proud parents of Doreen and David and called Devils Lake home their entire married life. Roger spent many hours on the road, but treasured time spent with family and friends. He also enjoyed membership in the Devils Lake Eagles Lodge.
In his younger years, Roger enjoyed hunting with his Dad. Roger and his brother faithfully continued to keep up the family farmyard after their Mom’s passing. Roger was frequently seen outside walking his dog and getting some good fresh air, summer, winter, fall and spring.
Roger’s loving family include his wife of Judy of 55 years; daughter Doreen (Dick) Johnson of rural Reynolds ND; granddaughter Chloe Hatten of Valley City ND and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son David, brother Bob Hatten and father-in-law and mother-in-law Julius and Evelyn Sandbakken.
Due to COVID restrictions, graveside services will be held in the spring with Military Honors.
