Irene M. Himle, 95, of Leeds, ND passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. A Private Family Funeral will be held at the Leeds Lutheran Church at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 10, 2021 with Pastor Sharon Baker officiating. Public Visitation will be allowed from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the church. Everyone is welcome to stream the service online through Nelson Funeral Home Facebook Page. Burial will take place at Leeds Lutheran Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Leeds Ambulance Service: 130 1st Ave NW, Leeds, ND 58346 or Leeds Lutheran Cemetery: P.O. Box 76 Leeds, ND 58346. CDC recommendations including social distancing, hand sanitizing and staying away if not feeling well are encouraged. Wearing a mask is required.

Irene Marie Himle was born December 11, 1925 to Leland and Myrtle (Fox) Hanna in Rolette, ND. She grew up on the family farm in Island Lake Township and attended Island Lake School and Rolette High School. Irene attended Minot State Teacher’s College and obtained her State Teacher’s Certificate. She taught school near Agate, ND at Pleasant Valley School for two years. Irene married Laurence Himle on May 20, 1945 in Rolla, ND. The couple farmed in the Island Lake and Bisbee areas before moving to Leeds.

Irene was a member of Leeds Lutheran Church and Sarah-Dorcas Circle. Irene served as an Election Judge for many years and served on several Grand Juries. She was hostess for card parties and liked to dance. Irene loved gardening and always had many beautiful flowers. She loved to bake and her grandkids especially loved her zucchini bread. Irene really enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She babysat all the grandkids and what happened at Grandmas stayed at Grandmas. She will be dearly missed by all.

Irene is survived by her children, Lloyd (Bonnie Kay) Himle of Leeds, Rio (Jean) Himle of Leeds and Gail Berg of Fargo, ND; 6 grandchildren, Valerie (Mark) Dziwulski, Rebecca (Kirk) Johnson, Michael (Kelly) Himle, Sara Jo (Nick) Anderson, Carrie Wallace (Bryan Minske) and Will Wallace; 3 step-grandchildren, Dion Warner, Chris Harris, Dale Warner; 6 great-grandchildren, Seth, Bryce and Grady Johnson, Lorelai and Tucker Himle and Evelyn Anderson; 6 step great-grandchildren, Chelsea Foster, Parker and Presley Anderson Brett Dziwulski, Emily Dziwulski and Bryce Dziwulski; great-great grandchild, Bodhi Foster; sisters-in-law, Stella Himle and DeLorez Himle; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Myrtle Hanna; husband, Laurence N. Himle; sisters, Gracie, Dorothy and Betty Lou (who all died in childhood); son-in-law, Charles Berg; niece, Karen Anderson; nephews, Douglas Himle and Kermit Himle.
