Thomas E. Jones

Thomas E. Jones, 83 of Devils Lake ND passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at CHI, St. Alexius Health, Devils Lake Hospital.

Thomas (Tommy) Earl Jones was born in Ultima Thule, Arkansas on October 26th, 1937 to Thomas Christopher (Clyde) Jones and Nancy Jane (Janie) Jones. In 1947 his parents moved the family to California. In his younger years, he loved to play baseball and during his sophomore and junior year of high school, he was involved with the biology club and on the track team, where he earned two letters. His nickname in school was “Topeka” and his favorite expression was “Ford’s the Best”. He graduated from Herlong High School in Herlong, California in 1956. During the summer months, he helped his parents at the gas station and baling hay. He was in the California Air National Guard during the Bay of Pigs.

Later in life, Tom moved to Devils Lake and made this his home for the remainder of his life. He worked for DTI, Sioux Manufacturing, and was the manager at Dakota Sportswear until his retirement. He was a great manager, always interactive and interested in his staff and what he could do to help them to be a good employee.  Tom always liked to stay busy, so he chose to work part-time at the Dakota Boys Ranch and Bjornson’s Gas Station.

In 1990 Tom met the love of his life, Vicky. They wed on June 30th, 1990 in a backyard wedding. They always felt that the Good Lord was smiling down on them when they had finally found their soulmates.

Tom’s favorite hobbies included woodworking, attending to his yard, traveling throughout the U.S. with his wife, Vicky, many hours fishing with his grandchildren, baking his famous apple cobbler, and you could always find him in his backyard soaking up the sun.

Tom’s loving family were the sustaining forces in his life that brought him so much joy, comfort, and peace. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved being a grandpa and spending time with his grandchildren, they were #1 in his book.

Tom’s survivors include his wife Vicky of 30 years; children David (Shawn) Jones, Sierra Vista, AZ, stepson John Heustis, Fargo, ND; grandchildren; April Jones, David Jones Jr., Christopher (Meghan) Heustis, Ashleigh Heustis, Bryce (Anna) Heustis, Brady Heustis, Dylan Heustis, Carsyn Heustis, and Jace Baird; his precious great grandsons Maxium Heustis and Jude Thomas Heustis; brothers James (Shar) Jones, Grants Pass, OR, Harley (Sharon) Jones, Penryn, CA, and sister Mary Jones, Henderson, NV; sister-in-law Marcia Linquist; special sister-in-law Marlene Hanson, special nephew Wade (Gina) Hanson, Courtney (Danny) Baier, Zach and Zoey, and his special great-nephew Connor, along with many dear nieces and nephews.
