Anthony “Tony” Schneider, 93, Minot, died Wednesday, January 19, 2022, in a Minot assisted living center.

Anthony Bernard Schneider was born on October 1, 1928, a son of John E. and Johanna (Fisher) Schneider at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby, ND. He was raised on a farm near Orrin, ND until 1936, when the family moved to Devils Lake, ND. In 1947, he graduated from Central High School in Devils Lake, ND. Following his graduation, he began employment at Shark’s Men Store, a job he kept until 1952.

In 1948, Tony enlisted into the United States Army National Guard. His unit was activated to active duty in 1951, and he served in the Korean Conflict. He returned to Camp Rocher in AL, where he was honorably discharged as a Sgt 1st class in January of 1952.

On August 7, 1950, Anthony was united in marriage to Alice L. Alexander at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake, ND. Following his discharge, the family moved to Minot, ND, where Tony continued his employment with Shark’s Men Store. He worked all capacities, becoming Assistant Manager in 1956. Tony purchased the store from the Late Saul Shark in 1982, and successfully ran the business known at Schneider’s Men Store, until retirement. Alice died March 17, 2015. Tony continued to live in Minot following her death.

Tony and Alice were charter members of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot, where he served as a lector, served on the Parish Council. He was also active with the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th Degree Knight. While in business, he was a member of the Minot Chamber of Commerce and President of the Downtown Business Association. He enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing and gardening. He enjoyed watching the stock market, the Dallas Cowboys, and reading about military history. He was also a lifetime member of the Minot American Legion Post #26.

Our Dad worked hard his whole life, starting at an early age. He took great pride in taking good care of his family. He was a kind and generous man. Our family would like to thank Dad’s many caregivers who helped him live his best life, on his own terms.

Anthony is survived by:

daughters, Ann (Tom) Mueller, Angela Schneider; grandchildren, Mike (Krista) Mueller, Marissa Mueller, Nathan (Jen)Livingston, Jacob (Stephanie) Livingston, and Samuel (fiancé Kierstyn Jasan)Livingston;

great- grandchildren, Aubree and Brody Mueller, Ava Livingston, Eleanor Livingston, and Silas Livingston, several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alice, brothers John, Andrew, Frank, Adam, Joseph, sisters: Julia Bickler, Magdalen Schneider, Barbara Hanft, Mary Kramer, Helen Longo, Sister Mary Agnes Schneider, Catherine Lacher and Joan Crawford.

Visitation: Tuesday, January 25, 2022 from 5 until 7 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 11 am at ST. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot. The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed and the link may be located on Tony’s obituary page at www.thompsonlarson.com

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Tony memory to the Minot American Legion Post #26, The Minot Homeless Coalition or the Souris Valley Humane Society.
