Aloysius L. "Fishy" McKay passed away on New Years Eve, December 31, 2021, at Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake at the age of 85.

Visitation will be held at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten on Friday, January 7, 2022, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service and Time of Remembrance at 7:00 p.m. The procession to Fort Totten will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Friday from City Plaza in Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 8th at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the spring in St. Jerome's Catholic Cemetery.

Aloysius Lewis McKay was born on November 18, 1936 at Fort Totten ND, the son of Alphonse and Mary Jane (Adams) McKay. He grew up on the Spirit Lake Nation and attended the Little Flower Mission School at St. Michael through the 8th grade, then attended Fort Totten High School where he played basketball. As a young man, he was part of the Relocation Program and lived and worked in California for several years. In 1972, he returned to the Spirit Lake Nation and began working at Sioux Manufacturing Corporation. In his younger years, Fishy worked as a ranch hand in the Towner area and also for Duane Howard. Fishy was united in marriage to Rosemary Greywind on August 17, 1977. They established their home in Fort Totten. They lived and worked at the Elderly Center for many years. Rosemary died on March 27, 2003. Fishy’s ability to fix anything was always a welcomed talent where ever he was employed. He would tinker with small appliances, TV’s, you name it, Fishy could fix it. He was an excellent cook and family always looked forward to any meals they shared with him. For the past 14 years, Fishy has made his home at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Devils Lake. Fishy loved his country, loved Elvis, and treasured his family with his whole heart.

Fishy leaves to mourn his passing, his sister Mildred “Midge” (McKay) Chase; step daughters Delphine McKay, Beverly Tikanye and Yvonne Georgeson; step sons Jonathan Tikanye and Maynard “Jumbo” Tikanye; nephews Robert (Euretta) McKay Sr., Terry McKay, Matthew “Sam” McKay, Scott (Tracy) Chase, Jerri Jensen Sr., Jay Dee (Martha) McKay, Stanley (Paula) Rosal and Gregory Rosal; nieces Beverly (Kenny) Graywater, Ila Rae McKay, Suzie Fox, Janifer Jensen, Angelita (Stellon) Bengtsson and Monica Rosal; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was welcomed home by his Lord, his wife Rosemary, parents Alphonse and Mary Jane, grandparents Luke and Mary Louise McKay, step daughter Bernadine Tikanye, step sons Randy Tikanye, Myron Greywind and Duane Tikanye; brothers Alfred “Simp” McKay, William “Bill” McKay, Gilbert “Jack” McKay and Jerome DeWolfe Sr. and sisters Katherine (McKay) Rosal and Mary Louise (McKay) Fox, nephews William “Billy” Fox Jr., Jerome DeWolfe Jr., Allen James McKay, Adrian Bruce McKay, Virgil McKay Sr., Carl McKay Sr. and Merle McKay, niece Lois Ann (Yankton) Veron, grandsons Scott “Lovey” McKay, Robert “Bobby” McKay Jr., Virgil “Voomie” McKay Jr. and Jason (Yankton) Veron and granddaughter Sara Rae (Snider) Chase.

Pallbearers will be Bradley Jensen, J.J. Jensen, Scott Chase, Brian McKay, William Lohnes, K.J. Graywater and Cody Graywater. A special thank you to the Eventide Staff for their loving care of our brother, uncle, grandpa, and friend for all these years.
