Dr. Howard B. Murray

Howard Bryant Murray, 82, of Sacramento, California, passed away unexpectedly on December 15, 2021. He was born in Devils Lake, ND, on December 7, 1939, to William and Anna (Johnson) Murray, grew up on the family farm and attended country school in Dry Lake Township, later graduating from Devils Lake High School in 1957.

Howard's years of education concluded at the University of Minnesota where he attained his doctorate and began teaching graduate studies at Moorhead State University. Dr. Murray then became a self-employed training consultant, residing in San Francisco, CA. In 2005 he came to CPS HR Consulting from the State Training Center, and lived in Sacramento, CA. He was widely respected as a consultant/trainer for State of California employees.

He married Barbara Bratland of Moorhead in 1963. They lived in Minneapolis until returning to Moorhead. In 1972 he and Ruth Ann Larson were married in Mt. Vernon, SD. A few months later, she was killed in an automobile accident.

Howard is survived by his sister, Lola (Don) Patnoude of Breckenridge, MN; a brother, Frank Murray of Daleville, AL; a sister-in-law, Olive Murray of Valley City, ND; his former wife Barbara, her daughter and two children; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; and countless clients, colleagues, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruth; brother Riley; and sister-in-law Marilyn.
