She graduated from Cando High School and then UND with a major in Home Economics and Dietetics. She was a proud member of the Delta Gamma sorority. Maxine had a dietetic internship at Colorado General Hospital and taught high school home economics in Williston, ND. In 1960, she joined the NDSU Extension Service as a home economist in Ramsey County, a position she held for 35 great years. Maxine married Charles Frank (Iowa) in 1960 and they raised their children, Bradley Charles and Gretchen Dorothy in Devils Lake, where they lived for 50 years.
Maxine was an officer in the National Association of Home Economics and actively involved in many Devils Lake community affairs. She was known for her ideas and forward thinking. She loved the time she worked in Ramsey County.
Maxine moved to Loveland, CO to live with her daughter and family after Charles' death in 2011. It made her so happy to be involved in their daily lives. She is survived by her children Brad (Hoffman, MN) and Gretchen (Todd) Toso, grandchildren Tanner, Garrett, and Taleah Toso (Loveland, CO) and Kaia Frank (Hoffman, MN), and sister-in-law Peggy Gessner (St. John, ND).
Mickey was a great conversationalist, always up for a party or celebration, and a fantastic mom and grandma. She enjoyed an afternoon car ride, great food, reading, spending summers at her beloved Lake Upsilon, and the lifelong friendships she made. Mickey was a friend to everyone who had the opportunity to meet her and spend time with her. She had a passion for life and was an amazing person. She will greatly be missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles and brother Stoney Gessner.
