Stephen A Platz, 70 of Devils Lake, ND, passed away at his home with loving family at his side on Monday morning, Nov. 24, 2025.
There will be a visitation at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday, Dec. 2 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with burial in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Stephen Adrian Platz was born on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 1955 in Wales, ND, to Margaret Platz. He grew up in Wales, attending the Wales and Langdon Public Schools, graduating with the Langdon High School class of 1973. He continued his education at the State School of Science in Wahpeton, earning certification as a HVAC technician.
Stephen made the move to Devils Lake in the mid 1970’s and called it home the rest of his life. He worked for several years as a carpenter with Kurtz Construction. In 1982, he began a 32 year career with Summers Manufacturing. He officially retired in 2014.
Stephen was united in marriage to Marliss Bingham on Oct. 11, 1980, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Leeds, ND. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their family through the years.
Stephen enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching boxing matches. He was thrilled to attend the Virgil Hill boxing match in Bismarck. He was also a life-long member of the NRA.
He worked hard to support his family, he loved his family and friends in his quiet way, and had a heart that was gentle and kind enough to love his beloved cat.
He is survived by his wife Marliss of 45 years; children Jennifer (Jerrod Kostad) Beck, Bismarck ,ND, Martin (Michael Wong) Platz, Pleasant Hill, California and Dominik Platz, Sheyenne, ND; grandson Aydrien Crist; aunt Leona Platz, Fargo ND; in-laws Beverly Janzen, Devils Lake, Michael (Peggy) Bingham, Brinsmade, ND, Dianne (Rudy) Bloomquist, Starkweather, ND, Edward Bingham, Devils Lake, Jerry Bingham, Brinsmade, Mary Ann Laughery, Maddock ,ND, Doris (Larry) Klebe and Bonnie Leiphon both of Devils Lake; many nieces, nephews and their families including Sandra (Chris) Svedberg who helped care for Stephen these last months.
He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret and in-laws George and Delores (Eback) Bingham.
Casket Bearers will be Bob Bingham, Keith Janzen, Michael Janzen, Aaron Klebe, Matthew Klebe and Chris Svedberg. Reading the Scriptures will be Sandra Svedberg and Bonnie Leipon. Bearers of Eucharistic Gifts will be Beverly Janzen and Bonnie Leiphon.
