Dolores Irene (Heit) Schwab, 91, of Devils Lake passed away on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, at CHI, St. Alexius Health, Devils Lake Hospital.
Dolores was born June 30, 1934, to Helen (Tuchsherer) and Lawrence Heit, Sr. in Webster, ND. She was the oldest of 11 children. She grew up in Devils Lake, attended Washington Elementary, and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1952. She attended Valley City School of Nursing and earned her RN diploma in 1955.
Dolores returned to Devils Lake, and married Marvin Schwab in 1956 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Devils Lake. They were blessed with 5 daughters: Joni, Kristi, Shirley, Debbie, and Julie. Dolores was a nurse at Mercy Hospital (now CHI St. Alexius) in Devils Lake for 40 years and retired in 1994. She was an avid reader, using her Kindle more recently and loved to play Solitaire on her iPad. The family enjoyed spending time at Wood Lake.
Marvin, her husband of 64 years, passed away in 2020.
Dolores was a lifetime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Altar Society, and Infant of Prague Circle. Dolores loved her final years at Eventide Assisted Living. She shared fond memories with many residents, whom she considered friends.
She is survived by daughters Joni Bosch, Kristi (Doug) Vang, Shirley (Steve) Brock, Debbie Adahl, and Julie Schwab (Vern Church); 12 dear grandchildren Kelly (George) Rajkovich, Jami (Robert) Stepec, Casey (Mike) Vieau, Dan (Kelsey Velcheff) Bosch, Lisa (Evan) Knobloch, Sara (Conner) Corbett, Ryan (Amanda) Brock, Jeff Brock, Brennan Adahl, Ethan Adahl; great grandchildren Emma Musel, Autum and Layla Rajkovich, Addison Borowicz, Cole and Jace Stepec, Clare Vieau, Scarlett and Brian Vieau, Audrey, Ainsley, and Allegra Knobloch, Cameron and Graham Corbett, Dylan and Rilee Brock; along with many special nieces, nephews and their families; brothers Robert, Denny (Linda), and Steve (Bonnie) Heit; sisters Marilyn (Dennis) Renner, Terri (Rick) Schneider, and Sharon Bostow; brother-in-law Denny (Judy) Schwab; sister-in-law Jeannie Scoggin.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Helen Heit, husband Marvin, grandchildren Michael and Scott Brock, sons-in-law Terry Bosch and Rodney Adahl, brothers Larry, James, John, and Gerald Heit; brothers-in-law Herman, Allan, and Richard Schwab; sisters-in-law Kay Heit, Joyce Schwab, Yvonne Schwab, and Muriel Heit; father-in-law and mother-in-law Sebastian and Eva Schwab;
Though Dolores may no longer walk beside us, her spirit will be with us always. Rest in peace.
Pall Bearers will be Brennan and Ethan Adahl, Doug Vang, Vern Church, Steve and Jeff Brock and Dan Bosch. Eucharistic Gift Bearers will be Kelly Rajkovich, Jami Stepec, Lisa Knobloch, and Sara Corbett. Reading the Scriptures will be Dennis Schwab.
Visitation was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake ND on Friday, Oct. 24, 2025, with a Rosary Service led by Reverend Mr. Ken Severinson, Deacon. Mass of Christian Burial was with Reverend Karmalraj Balasamy celebrating the Mass. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery followed a time of fellowship in the Parish Center.
