Kelly Edward Schell, age 73, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, passed away on Aug. 18, 2025. He was born on May 21, 1952, in Devils Lake, ND, to John “Eddie” and Erma Metzger Schell.
Kelly was a devoted member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Fort Walton Beach. After graduating from St. Mary’s Academy in Devils Lake, he furthered his education at Troy University and Okaloosa Applied Technological School.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. Of his many duties, he was most honored to serve as a Special Forces Helicopter Rescue Crew Chief. Following his military career, Kelly worked as a Master Machinist with a local company. After his full retirement, he continued to live his life as a righteous man, spending time with his treasured family and friends.
Kelly was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Suzanne Harty Gilbreath; and brother, Randy Schell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Lisa (Elisabeth Rypkema Harty) Schell; his children, Monica Schell Gamel (John), Thomas Harty (Cindy), and Daniel Harty; his brother, Steve Schell (Sharon); his sister, Laura Schell Somerville (Dan); his grandchildren, Mason Womack, Trentley Gamel, Kalley Gamel, and Jakob Gilbreath; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Aug. 25, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Fort Walton Beach, with Monsignor Doug Halsema officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery with military honors provided by the Eglin Air Force Base Honor Guard.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have offered prayers, kindness, and support during this difficult time.
