Jodi Tjelta, 52 of Sheyenne, ND, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND. Funeral Services for Jodi will be on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Devils Lake with a time of fellowship to follow. The burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, in rural Sheyenne on Friday afternoon.
Jodi Ann, daughter of James and Sharon (Schmidt) Nelson was born on Dec. 1, 1972, in Hinkley, Minnesota. She grew up and was educated in Hinkley, graduating from High School with the class of 1991.
Jodi continued her education at Northwestern College in Roseville, MN, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Medicine in 1994. She continued her goal to become a Physical Therapist, entered Des Moines University, and received her Master’s in Physical Therapy in 2002. She received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2021 through the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota.
Jodi worked as a Physical Therapist and as an entrepreneur. However, her true passion was to care for her family and friends.
Jodi attended Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Devils Lake and was very involved especially in youth ministries.
Jodi is survived by her family which includes her husband Peter Tjelta; children Malinda (Stephen) Sturtz, Bismarck ND, Ian (Kaitlyn) Tjelta, Manhattan, KS, Emily Tjelta, Faith Tjelta and Jacob Tjelta all of Sheyenne, ND; precious grandchildren Duncan Sturtz and Andrew Tjelta; parents James and Sharon Nelson, Hinkley MN; sisters Betsy (Eric) Hoel, White Bear Lake, MN, and Amy Davis (Jason Hanson) Sheyenne, ND; brother Jake (Megan) Nelson, Hinkley, MN; father-in-law and mother-in-law Ralph and Katha Tjelta, Spooner, WI; sister-in-law Sarah (Joel) Kyrola, Barronett, WI; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.
Casket Bearers will be Jodi’s nephews Tanner Hoel, Cooper Hoel, Carter Hoel and Parker Hoel and Jodi’s cousins Curt Nelson and Mark Nelson.
