Douglas O. “Doug” Olson, 72 of Devils Lake formerly of Oberon, ND, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at his home.

Douglas Owen “Punky” Olson was born on Dec. 18, 1952, in New Rockford, ND, to John O. and Harriet (Stensland) Olson. He graduated from Oberon High School in 1970, and attended Thief River Falls Area Vocational Technical Institute, and Moorhead Tech. He married Linda Bohl in 1981, and they had a son, Jared Drew Olson. He worked various jobs over the years; a cross-country trucker, Mathern Cattle Company in Edgeley, ND, and as a pipe inspector in the oil fields out in Williston, ND. He moved back to Oberon a few years ago, and it was the bast move for him! He was the Director of Parks and Recreation and Superintendent of Public Works for the City of Oberon, (according to him) and he LOVED it!

He is survived by his son, Jared (Jess Glass) Olson; grandchildren Jevan, Alivia and Gracie Olson; brothers and sisters-in-law Odean (Karen) Olson, Bob (Kathy) Olson; sister and brother-in-law Mary (Steve) Bracken; nieces and nephew Lisa (Jay) Mathern, Dawn (Mike) Rene, Nicole (Brendan) Caroline, Shaun (Karla) Bracken, Delaney (Alex) Sheehan; several great nieces and great nephews; cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.

After a recent trip to Georgia and Florida with his life-long friend, George Hanson, Doug passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, three months after open heart surgery.

A time of sharing and a short memorial service will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel in Devils Lake, ND, on Sunday, June 1 at 1:00 p.m. “His final ride” will be a motorcycle procession to Antelope Valley Cemetery, rural Oberon after the service. There will be a gathering at Doug’s yard in Oberon following burial.
