Sven Wilgoth Carlson Jr., age 83, of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Sheyenne, ND, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025, at his home in Devils Lake.

Sven Wilgoth Carlson Jr. was born on Sep. 29, 1941, to Sven Wilgoth Carlson Sr. and Jennie (Anderson) Carlson in Devils Lake, ND. He was baptized and confirmed into Grace Lutheran Church in Sheyenne. He attended grades 1-8 at Lone Tree #2, and graduated from Benson County Agricultural Training School in 1959. Wilgoth was active in FFA (Future Farmers of America), and he received the American Farmer Degree from the Maddock Chapter, an honor given to only 1 for every 1000 members. He was very involved in shop class and rebuilt a Model A to drive to school.

On June 24, 1983, Wilgoth was united in marriage to Gail Landgren at Sheyenne. Wilgoth made sure he ended up marrying a veterinarian who loved farming. Wilgoth and Gail had two sons, Sven and Jon. They farmed and ranched, and enjoyed living in such beautiful country.

Wilgoth had been a member of the township board, Grace Lutheran Church council, and was instrumental in the formation of the Riverside Cemetery Association.

Wilgoth was a dedicated farmer that believed everything should be done to the max. He was known by the family with the phrase “It ain’t full until it runs over”, referring to each load of grain.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Carlson of Devils Lake, ND; sons, Sven (Andrea) Carlson of Sheyenne, ND, and Jon (Dorothy) Carlson of Lemmon, SD; his sisters, Eunice (Newton) Dick of Lorena, TX, and Judith Sorenson of Queen Creek, AZ; brother, Mauritz Carlson of Sheyenne, ND; six grandchildren; eight nephews; four nieces.

Wilgoth was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, one infant brother, two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, one grandson, and two nephews.

Wilgoth’s visitation was on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, which was followed by a funeral service at Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan, ND. His burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Sheyenne, ND.
