Roger Lane Johnson was born Aug. 22, 1935, in Leeds, ND, the youngest child of Gottfried and Jennie (Ericksmoen) Johnson.

Roger spent his life in Leeds working as a farmhand for many of his friends and for his brother, Gordon, at Johnson Plumbing. He loved playing bingo and pool at Earls and playing cards with friends, Mary Schuller and Lorraine Stevens. When not working for others, you could find him at home taking care of his yard; his friends would tease him about finding that last fallen leaf!

Tired of the winter snow and cold, Roger began spending the winter months in Phoenix, AZ, with his sister Alvina, her husband, Vincent, and son, Colin. He enjoyed landscaping the Arroyo behind their home and delighted in the animals that came to visit. Roger often joined in family vacations and spent many Christmas holidays with family in Las Vegas.

Roger passed on Saturday, the 14th of December at the Eventide Care Center in Devils Lake. He made fast friends with the staff and enjoyed visiting with residents over his coffee and cookies. A special thank you to Dr. Tollefson, the nurses, and support staff at Eventide. His family appreciates the caregiving he received, especially during the difficult last few days of his life. You were there when we couldn’t be.

Roger is survived by his nephew, Colin, and his niece, Linda, her husband, Craig, and grand nieces, Jennie Bowman and Janna Colman. Their children, Lyla, Ross, and Beau were the grandchildren he never had. His best friends Vicky Hansen and Victor Anderson who always found the time to share a ride, a Pepsi, and a Hershey bar.

Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Alvina Grady, brothers Gordon and Jim Johnson.

Cremation has taken place and interment in the Leeds Lutheran Cemetery will follow during the summer of 2025.

We will miss your mischievous grin, your laughter, and your generous heart. Rest In Peace Uncle Roger.
