Beverly Horne, 89, passed away surrounded by love and family on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023, in SMP Health – St. Catherine North, the wonderful facility where she has been compassionately cared for during the last two years.

Beverly Ann Kraus was born on April 20, 1933, to Alloys and Helen (Anderson) Kraus in Superior, WI. They moved to Fargo when she was very small, where she attended Fargo Public Schools and graduated from Fargo High School. North Dakota State University would be important to her future… not only did she earn both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from NDSU, but she also found her husband as a fellow member of the NDSU Concert Choir. She married Ray Horne in June of 1955, two days after they both graduated from NDSU. With Ray being a pilot in the United States Air Force, they lived in various spots in Texas and Iowa before taking over the Horne family farm in Penn, ND. Bev also loved being at the lake, first with a lot on Devils Lake, and in later years at Middle Cormorant Lake in Minnesota. Bev and Ray also enjoyed many winters in Arizona, connecting with many friends from different stages of their lives.

Bev kept busy as a farm wife, mother of four, and entertainer of many friends and neighbors over the years with her Brownies and Party Mix. Bev was active in many community organizations and projects that focused on the arts, music, history, gardening, church activities, and activities for her children (Blue Birds, Campfire Girls, 4-H, Field Trips to the farm, etc.). She was the State Director of Make it Yourself with Wool, a member and President of the North Dakota State Historical Board, awarded Outstanding Citizen of the Lake Region, and received the Heritage Award by the NDSU Alumni Association for hosting many alumni events at their home in Arizona. Bev also realized one of her many big dreams by creating the Friends of Fort Totten to renovate one of the buildings at the Fort Totten State Historic Site at Fort Totten, ND, turning it into the Totten Trail Historic Inn, offering a unique bed and breakfast experience. If she could dream it, she could figure out a way to make those dreams come true!

Bev will be sorely missed by her family. Her husband, Ray; son, Brad and his wife, Dori; son, Terry; daughter, Julie, and her husband, Mike Miller; son, Alex, and his wife, Stacey. Terry’s daughter, Lindsey, and her husband, Joe Prigelmeier; their sons Elliot and Miles; Terry’s son, Christopher, and his wife Heidi; their sons, Collin and Caleb, and daughter, Mallory; Terry’s daughter, Haley. Julie’s son, Zane, and daughter, Audrey. Alex’s son, Lukas, and daughter, Annika; many special nieces and nephews.

Bev was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Svanau and Victor Horne, sister, Barbara Kraus Kjelland, brother-in law,and sister-in-law, Victor and Susie Horne, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Bea Horne.

Memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, at Hope Lutheran Church – South. Visitation will be held one hour prior.
