Bernadine G. Hager, 79 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

There was a gathering of family and friends at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 Funeral Services will be on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, Fort Totten, ND.

Bernadine, daughter of Florence Herman and Michael Laverdure was born on February 22, 1945 in Devils Lake, ND.

She grew up on the Spirit Lake Nation and attended St. Michael’s Little Flower Boarding School. From a young age, she worked a variety of jobs to help support the family.

Bernadine was united in marriage to Gene A. “Shorty” Hager on March 27, 1965 at St. James Catholic Church in Minnewaukan, ND. They were looking forward to celebrating 60 years of marriage. A marriage that was always full of love through the many joys and trials they endured. Family was the most important aspect of Bernadine’s life. She loved all unconditionally and they were all her pride and joy.

Bernadine was always a hard worker. She worked at Brunswick, Sioux Manufacturing, Dakota Sportswear and Ray’s Bait & Tackle. In 1986 they moved the family to Grahams Island where they made their homestead and ranched cattle until retiring.

Bernadine’s artistic pursuits, post-retirement unveiled her true passion, creating stunning lampshades and more recently, she learned to make exquisite star quilts, which she so lovingly shared with family and friends.

Bernadine’s love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren was the foundation upon which a legacy of love and connection was built, fostering a sense of unity and belonging across generations. Through shared experiences and traditions, Bernadine crafted a loving environment that nurtured all.

Bernadine, devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother and great grandmother, precious sister and aunt will be forever missed, forever loved and forever in our hearts. Rest in peace!

Bernadine is survived by her husband Gene; son Jake (Tamara) Hager, Port Charlotte, Florida; daughter Kimberly Rae Morin, Bismarck, ND; grandchildren Brad (Kayla) Hager, Aaron (Trish Cross) Longie-Natasha Hager, Jake Hager Jr, CJ, Matthew, Ethan -Todd Hernandez, Destiny Hager, Alisaundra Morin, Emma Morin; great grandchildren Braxton, Alivia, Korbin, Kinsley, Ariana, Braylon, Zenna, Bennett, Caleb, Abigail and Bailey; brothers Eugene Laverdure, Fargo ND and Steve (Dodie) Laverdure, Duluth, MN; many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her children, Todd Hager, Troy Hager and Carmen Hager, siblings Joanne Vasta and Janet Jepson and parents. In-laws John and Emma (Grossman) Hager.
