Alban “Albie” Norman Nordrum, 77 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, at CHI, St. Alexius Health, Devils Lake Hospital.
Funeral Services will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Lori Broschat officiating. Burial and Military Honors will be at a later date in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Alban “Albie” Norman Nordrum was born May 10, 1945 at Memorial Hospital in Maddock, ND. He was raised on the family farm in rural Minnewaukan until 1948 when the family moved to Devils Lake.
He attended and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1963. He attended one year of college at Lake Region Junior College and one year at Mayville State College.
He went to work for Larry Brenno at Larry’s 66 Service Station until September of 1967 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army.
He attended basic and AIT training at Fort Lewis, Washington, and was a member of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade based in Fort Lewis, Washington. He was then deployed as a Mortar Gunner to Long Bin Post, Vietnam in March of 1968. He was honorably discharged in April of 1969. He was awarded the medals of National Defense Service, Vietnam Campaign, Combat Infantryman, Vietnam Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal.
He returned to Devils Lake and worked at Highway 66 Service until 1993 when he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a Letter Carrier and later moved into Maintenance. He continued to work until his retirement in October of 2009.
Albie was once married to Connie (Haugen) Nordrum. They had three sons, Del, Bryan, and Steven.
Albie was one of the first organizers of the Devils Run Car show which he attended every year. He also enjoyed going to the dirt track races, especially when his sons participated. After retirement he enjoyed meeting the guys for breakfast during the week. He also enjoyed spending time with his sons and grandkids working on their projects.
He was very proud of this 1963 Corvette which he bought upon returning from Vietnam in 1969.
He is survived by his three sons: Del Nordrum, Bryan Nordrum, and Steven (Sandy) Nordrum, all of Devils Lake; daughter-in-law Kristi Nordrum of Devils Lake; grandchildren Savanah, Grace, Cameron, and Kinley Nordrum, all of Devils Lake; mother-in-law Deloise Haugen of Devils Lake; many in-laws, nieces, and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children Connie Nordrum, his parents Norman and Lorena Nordrum, brother Roger Nordrum, and nephew Craig Huffman.
