Burial will be at Norway Lutheran Cemetery, rural Devils Lake, at a later date.

Ardys LaVonne was born on Jan. 17, 1940, at the family home in Oberon, ND, to Orville “Jack” and Thea (Djoseland) Treon. She grew up and was educated in Oberon, graduating from Oberon High School with the class of 1959.

On Sep. 3, 1960, Ardy was united in marriage to her dear R. Glenn Salisbury at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Oberon. They lived for a brief time in New Rockford and Ardy worked at the New Rockford Bank. They then moved to Minnewaukan and in October of 1963 they moved to Devils Lake where they lived, worked, and raised their family through the years.

After moving to Devils Lake, Ardy worked at Ramsey Bank. In August 1973, Ardy was hired by Lyle Hoff and the Devils Lake School System as the first “Lady Bus Driver” they ever had. She had the south/east route for many years with her first stop being now East Bay Campground. She continued to work for the Devils Lake School System in a different role as a paraprofessional. She had a soft heart, but she was always well respected by her bus passengers and all the students in her care. She was a dedicated, hard-working employee with the school system for 23 years.

This sweet, kindhearted, beautiful soul retired as a para, but she longed to be around kids again, so she became the Grandma Ardy/Papa Glenn Day Care to several kiddos at different times; Brady, Nathan and Krissy Larson, Mara and Megan LaMotte, Ellie and John Rutten, Alyssa and Joey Hornstein and Jessica Fairley. After their second and third grandchildren were born, they spent many days in Thompson getting to know them.

Family meant the world to Ardy and Glenn. They followed all the activities and sporting events their children participated in and, of course, their grandchildren. They even made it a priority to follow the grandkids through high school and college activities.

Ardy was well-known for her role in the local Eagles Auxiliary. She held every office in the organization and served as the North Dakota/South Dakota State President in 1995-1996. She was also the Eagles Mother of the Year in the early 90’s. Ardy served nine counties as the Director of their Special Olympics Programs. She was an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and WELCA and enjoyed membership in the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries as well.

If that was not enough, Ardy always tended a garden which meant planting, weeding, and processing the produce. That brings us back to East Bay Campground where the family spent many wonderful summers outdoors since 2005. She loved to mow the lawn, shovel snow, plant flowers, plant tomatoes at the campsite and can everything she could. The friendship and fellowship shared with family, friends and neighbors were treasured by Ardy.

Our kind, loving, generous Ardy was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She loved with her whole heart and will be so dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ardy’s loving family include her husband Glenn of over 63 years; daughter Dawn (Tom) Stoe and son Dana (Marlene) Salisbury all of Devils Lake; grandchildren Doug (Mandy) Iverson, Grand Forks, Rebekah (Bridger) Urban, Devils Lake, Riley Stoe also of Devils Lake and a great granddaughter on the way; siblings Eloise Lucht, New Rockford, Ivy Johnson Spring Lake Park, MN, Ann Wheeler, Kenai, AK, Delano (Joan) Treon, Culver, OR; many nieces, and nephews and their families also survive.

Ardy will be united with her Lord and parents Jack and Thea; siblings Dorothy Johnson, Lorraine Anderson, LeRoy Treon, Marlyn “Bud” Treon, Berniece Treon and Donna Browning, in-law Lewis and Hazel Salisbury, Evonne Choukalos, David Salisbury, and John Salisbury and many other precious family members.
