Doris Myklebust, 99 of Devils Lake formerly of Starkweather, ND, passed away on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.

Doris Ann Myklebust was born to Joe and Gladys (Hassett) Thorson and was the oldest of 8 children. On June 16, 1944, she married Art Myklebust in a double wedding ceremony with good friends Howard and Lorraine Thacker. Art and Doris farmed in rural Starkweather until 1986 when they moved into Starkweather. In 2004, they moved to Devils Lake. Art passed in 2017.

Doris had various jobs in her life beginning at age 14 until well into her 80’s. She belonged to homemaker clubs, Ladies Aid, Ramsey County Seniors, Senior Commission on Aging, and Senior Citizen Centers.

Doris enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She loved to golf, darts, curl, bowl, dance, sing and play cards. She had a very active social life.

Doris is a member of the ND Bowling Hall of Fame, VFW Auxiliary and Elks.

Doris is survived by her children, David (Audrey) Myklebust, John (Sharlo) Myklebust, Gordy (MJ) Myklebust, Barbara (Charlie) Scherzer, Gary (Mary) Myklebust and Steve (Kathy) Myklebust. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Shirley O’Connell, a brother Don (Laura) Thorson and a sister-in-law Sandy Thorson.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Art’s parents John and Ingeborg Myklebust, stepfather Mel Rustan, brothers Gerald (Joseph), Richard, Bobby, Bill, sister Jean Ellis and brothers-in-law Gordon Ellis and Emmett O’Connell.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a time of prayer at 6:00 p.m. The funeral service for Doris will be on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity-Bergen Lutheran Church in Starkweather, ND, with Reverend Robert Buechler officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity-Bergen Cemetery on Saturday.
