Robert Fenner, 80 of Devils Lake, passed away on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, at Unity Medical Center, Grafton, ND.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, beginning at 12:00 noon with a Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. also at the Gilbertson Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Devils Lake.

Robert Fenner was born on Oct. 4, 1943, in Devils Lake, ND, the son of Clarence and Fannie (Hartl) Fenner. Due to a medical complication with a high fever at a young age, Robert attended the Grafton State School.

Robert was moved to Devils Lake under the care of 4th Corp and REM North Dakota. Robert worked in the recycling center, mail delivery, kitchen, and delivering senior meals. He always had a smile on his face and enjoyed the staff. Robert loved to go on outings including fishing, shopping, golfing in the summer and vacation which included an overnight trip to Grand Forks. Robert enjoyed going to the Cedar Inn and the waitresses and other regulars always looked forward to seeing him.

Robert’s staff ensured he attended church faithfully at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Devils Lake. The staff at the REM program and LRC are compassionate people who are dedicated to helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other challenges live well. It is with heartfelt thanks to all of the staff for ensuring Robert lived his best life.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Fannie, and brother Melvin. He is survived by his sister-in-law Mary, 2 nieces, 3 nephews, and numerous cousins.
