Dwight Ronald Gonser was born on Sept. 7, 1938, at Devils Lake ND, the son of Dwight and Dorothy (Locke) Gonser. Ron graduated from Central High School with the class of 1956. Ron would call Devils Lake home his entire life. He worked with his Dad at Dwight’s Mobile Station until he enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 20, 1959 and honorably and proudly served his country for nearly 4 years. His basic training was at Lockland, Texas and had specialized technical training at St. Angelo, Texas. In 1960 he was transferred to Germany where he served with the Air Force Security Operations Services. He was honorably discharged from active service with the rank of Airman 2nd Class on March 6, 1963. He continued as a reservist until March 19, 1965. While in Germany, he would meet and marry the love of his life, the beautiful Charlotte Dwuletzki on Nov. 16, 1960. Ron still had many months of duty yet to serve so he sent Charlotte home to Devils Lake to the care of his parents until his discharge.

Ron and Charlie established their home in Devils Lake, living, working, and raising their two precious daughters. Ron went back to work with his Dad at the Mobile Station and eventually was the owner and operator until 1978. Ron then began working at Mercy Hospital as the boiler specialist and in maintenance until retiring in 2004. Charlie passed away on February 26, 2021 after 60 plus years of love and devotion to each other.

Ron loved the outdoors; goose hunting or riding his Honda Nightwing or Trike, of course Charlie as his passenger. They also enjoyed travelling and made several trips to Germany. Ron also spent many hours working on cars, tinkering with the engine.

Ron was a faithful, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud member of the armed services and dedicated citizen of the Devils Lake community. He will be dearly missed.

Ron’s loving family include his daughter Jeanette and her husband Kevin Wixo of Grand Forks, ND; granddaughters Mandy Wixo, Grand Forks and Chace (Engstrom) and her husband Chase Austvold, Leeds ND and grandson Cullen Engstrom of Valley City, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, precious daughter Suzanne and beloved wife Charlotte.

Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association in memory of Ron.
