God, we give thanks to you for your gifts of life, love, and salvation. We know that it’s from you that all blessings flow. For these gifts your daughter, Deloise was thankful. Deloise lived her life with a servant heart always putting others first.
Life for Deloise Beverly began on Sep. 1, 1928. She was born in Crary, ND and the 4th of 5 children to Theodore and Alice Marie (Smith) Froelich. Deloise graduated from Devils Lake High School in 1946. That same year, on her 18th birthday she married Julius Haugen at her parents’ home in Devils Lake.
After living in Fargo for a brief time, they moved to Eugene, Oregon where they welcomed their first two daughters Constance (Connie) and Terry. After 5 years in Oregon, they returned to Devils Lake where they were blessed with two more children, a son, Stacy, and a daughter, Paula.
Deloise worked at various jobs until they purchased The Barrel Drive In restaurant. Always the hard worker, Del worked from early mornings to late at night 7-days a week, Spring through Fall doing whatever was needed to make it successful. It was an 11-year family affair with Julie, her children, family, and friends pitching in to help. Del was like a mother to many wonderful employees. Many memories and stories were cherished in her heart.
In 1982 at the age of 53, Del became a widow when Julie passed away from cancer. Deloise was a compassionate caregiver for her husband, her parents, and others. Always putting their needs before her own. She had no regrets for her sacrifices.
For many years Del maintained her home in Lakewood. In these years she babysat her grandchildren. This brought the greatest joy into her life. She also kept busy sewing clothes for them and their dolls. Deloise also quilted and crocheted many beautiful afghan blankets.
Deloise had a gift for writing poetry and has a collection of poems spanning much of her life. Most often she wrote about loving her Lord but also about life, children, grandchildren, and family. She often included a special poem with cards and gifts.
On January 2nd at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, Deloise went home to be with her Lord. Deloise was 95. Del is survived by 3 of her children. Terry (Rick) Huffman of Crookston, MN, Stacy (Karen) Haugen of Minot, ND, and Paula (Roger) Windjue of Devils Lake, ND.
